The North West Department of Education will host the Provincial Athletics Championships, where Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN), Primary Schools, and Secondary Schools will compete for a place in the National Championships.

The Athletics Championships aim to promote inclusivity, talent identification, and holistic development of learners across the province. The event will bring together young athletes from various districts to showcase their skills, determination and sportsmanship at provincial level.

The Provincial Athletics Championships are scheduled as follows:

Date: 05 – 07 March 2026
Venue: NWU Kenneth McArthur Athletics Championships Stadium (Potchefstroom).

The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi highlighted that the Provincial Athletics Championships allows learners to showcase their athletics abilities.
“The Provincial Athletics Championships are more than just a sporting event but a platform to nurture talent, promote inclusivity, and encourage healthy competition among learners across the province. They provide an opportunity for learners from Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, and Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) to showcase their athletic abilities”, added MEC Motsumi.
