Inclusive Education

Purpose: To ensure implementation of policy and establishment of an Inclusive Education System

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Capacitate educators in identification and support of learners experiencing barriers.
  • Assist children and youth at risk and in conflict with the law
  • Consultation: with others in the school system as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Direct intervention: with children and parents in individual, group, and family modalities.
  • Coordinate adequate provision of institutional resources to special schools
  • Ensure effective functioning of and performance of special schools and provisioning of assistive devices
  • Co-ordinate, monitor and support the implementation of national policies, acts and regulations pertaining to Inclusive Education and the implementation of the provincial roll- out plan on Inclusive
  • Education (SIAS, Accommodation and Concessions, White Paper 6.)
  • Perform early identification of barriers to learning, assessment, referrals/ placement
  • Render a support service related to the implementation of the national curriculum as it pertains to learners experiencing barriers to learning.
  • To assess and provide support to learners with profound intellectual disabilities in care centres and facilitate placement in special schools
