The Learner Social Support Services(LSSS) Directorate of the Department of Education held a Peer Education Seminar program to engage grade 8 – 11 learners throughout the North-West province .The seminar took place from the 18- 21 June 2924 and was conducted simultaneously in the four districts, namely Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Bojanala, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati.
The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District seminar took place at Ngwenya Hotel in Stillfontein .The first two days of the activity( 18- 19 June 2024) catered for 78 girls, and the last days targeted 76 boys from all the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Schools.
The ‘Keeping boys and girls in school’ session at Ngwenya brought 12 schools from JB Marks, 18 schools from Matlosana and 8 schools from Maquassie Hills, each school provided two learners to the seminar on each session of girls and boys respectively.
Learners were grouped to discuss leadership as a topic to show their understanding and provide different kinds of leadership that they know and they were given different roles and responsibilities to do the task. Stakeholders who supported the Department in the seminar were Community Media Trust which availed a Social Worker and a Nurse to talk to learners, Right to Care presenting about Male Circumcision and STIs, Muslim Aids Program on HIV/Aids, Including Department of Health- School Health Nurse taking about Teenage Pregnancy as well as Office of the Premier- Mr James Mothosola motivating learners on Health Issues.
The program was also supported and coordinated by Ms. Dorophy Ramono from LSSS- Corporate and Dr KK District officials Ms Moithumi Kaibe and Mr Naledi Molete.
