The accident occurred at Tshuenyane village outside Mantsha village where Mosikare school is situated. Five of the six learners were injured and taken to hospital (one to Victoria and the other four to Bophelong Hospital). It is unfortunate tha3t one learner was reported deceased at the scene of the event. The accident happened after camp session around 15:00 and staff was notified around 17:00.
The MEC for Education, Ms Viola Motsumi has urged drivers transporting learners to school, to exercise extreme caution on the roads.
“I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and extend my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured learners of Mosikare Secondary School. It is deeply concerning that the Department continues to lose learners due to reckless driving on our roads. I therefore call on all drivers responsible for transporting learners to prioritise safety at all times. The loss of even one learner’s life is one too many”, said MEC Motsumi.
On Monday, 04 May 2026, the District Officials and the School Management will meet the Grade 12 learners and the parents of the learners involved in this accident.
