MEC DR MOHONO KICKSTARTS DISTRICT ROADSHOW WITH HANDOVER OF TABLETS TO SCHOOL PRINCIPALS

The North West Department of Education MEC, Dr Desbo Mohono, has kickstarted her Meet and Greet roadshow to the districts by handing over tablets to school principals as part of the Department’s efforts to strengthen the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning.

The roadshow commenced at MM Sebitloane Special School in Taung on Monday, 7 September 2026, where the MEC engaged with school principals and handed over tablets to support the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.

The primary purpose of the Meet and Greet roadshow is to engage with school principals across the province and outline the MEC’s priorities for her term of office. The roadshow also provides an opportunity for the MEC to engage directly with school principals, understand the challenges they face, and discuss ways of strengthening teaching and learning across the province.

The MEC for Education, Dr Desbo Mohono, emphasised that the time is now over for officials who are not “shaping up” and failing to perform their duties.

“My message to officials of the Department who have not been doing their work is that the time for not doing the work is over. They must ‘shape up’ now; otherwise, they will find themselves on the streets. We should never fail our learners by not doing the right thing, which is to teach them. I am going to conduct unannounced visits to schools, and I will not report to anyone when I go to schools. Tell the Circuit Managers and inform them that I will be in their schools soon.

“We must focus on curriculum coverage. Attendance at school is very important. Assessment and learner performance across all grades should be our priority. We cannot wait until the end of the year to discover that learners are struggling. We must identify challenges early and intervene to ensure that learners receive the necessary support to improve their performance,” highlighted MEC Dr Mohono.

MEC Dr Mohono further indicated that teachers who previously taught Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Commercial subjects should be called back to schools to share their expertise. She said this should include experienced teachers who have since moved to the private sector.

“We need to bring back experienced teachers who have previously taught subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Commercial subjects. Those who have moved to the private sector should also be encouraged to come back and share their expertise with our schools. Their experience and knowledge can make a meaningful contribution to improving learner performance,” said MEC Dr Mohono.

MEC Mohono is expected to handover tablets to all Principals of Dr Kenneth Kaunda District on Tuesday, 08 September 2026 at Hoerskool, Die Welge.
