The North West Department of Education, under the leadership of MEC Dr Sebonta Francinah Desbo Mohono, today celebrated exceptional educators at the Provincial 2026 National Teaching Awards ceremony held at the Mmabatho Convention Centre in Mahikeng.
The prestigious awards recognise educators who demonstrate outstanding dedication, innovation, professionalism and commitment to improving learner achievement and advancing quality education.
Addressing educators and stakeholders from across the province’s four districts, MEC Dr Mohono emphasised that teachers remain at the heart of the education system and play a critical role in shaping the future of the province and the country.
“National Teaching Awards are not merely about certificates and trophies. They recognise the positive impact of educators and provide an opportunity to share innovative practices that can inspire and strengthen teaching and learning across our province,” said MEC Dr Mohono.
The ceremony celebrated excellence across various categories, including primary and secondary school teaching and leadership, inclusive education, mathematics, natural and physical sciences, technology-enhanced teaching, life skills, and special recognition awards.
Chairperson of the National Teaching Awards, Ms Lucy Tong, congratulated the winners and finalists, reminding them that “excellence is a journey, not a destination.” She encouraged all educators to continue striving for excellence and to support one another in strengthening the teaching profession.
The provincial winners will represent the North West Province at the National Teaching Awards scheduled to take place on 1 October 2026.
The Department congratulates all award recipients, finalists and participating educators and wishes the provincial representatives success as they prepare to showcase the excellence of Bokone Bophirima on the national stage.
