The North West Department of Education is proud to announce that Matlhare Mokautu Secondary School has received seven mobile classrooms through the intervention of Thuntsa Lerole Acceleration of Services Programme in Monakato Township on 05 May 2026.
During the fifth phase of the Thuntsa Lerole Acceleration of Services Programme last year in Monakato Township, MEC Viola Motsumi found that a block of classrooms was unsafe for learners. The structure was unstable and was threatening the safety of learners.
The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, informed the School Governing Body that the Department’s priority is the safety of learners.
“Last year I came to this school and found that learners’ lives were at high risk. I immediately instructed that the learners be moved to a safe learning environment. Today I am proud that all those learners have been accommodated in seven mobile classrooms.
“As a Department, our number one priority is the safety of both teachers and learners. The Department is also in the process of addressing this challenge permanently by appointing a contractor to repair the building. We will introduce the contractor once all supply chain processes have been concluded,” added MEC Motsumi.
The School Governing Body Committee of Matlhare Mokautu expressed its gratitude and satisfaction following the Department’s intervention.
Matlhare Mokautu achieved over 93% in the 2025 Matric results, and the school is targeting over 95% in 2026.
