MEC MOTSUMI TO CONDUCT INTERACTIVE SESSIONS WITH INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS OFFERING GRADE 12 AND AGRICULTURAL FOCUS SCHOOLS

The North West Department of Education MEC, Viola Motsumi in her efforts to improve matric results within the province, will conduct interactive sessions with Independent Schools offering Grade 12 as well as Agricultural Focus Schools.

The primary objective of the interactive sessions is to analyse the academic performance of individual learners for Term 1 in both Independent Schools and Agricultural Schools. The sessions will also focus on the assessment of existing programmes and turnaround strategies aimed at improving Grade 12 results, analyse the registration of Independent Schools as examination centres and evaluate current challenges and non-negotiables within these schools.

The Interactive Sessions with Independent Schools and Agricultural Focus Schools will be scheduled as follows:

1. Interactive Session with Independent Schools

Time: 10:00
Date: 19 May 2026
Venue: Laerskool Silverand, Rustenburg

2.Interactive Session with Agricultural Focus Schools

Time: 09:00
Date: 20 May 2026
Venue: Die Hoerskool Wagpos, Brits.

The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi believes that interventions aimed at improving academic results should begin early in the year.

“As the North West Province, we want to be amongst the top-performing provinces in the country. Our primary objective is to challenge the top three provinces and that means we need to support our schools in good time. All interventions should be implemented promptly, hence my engagement with these schools. I want to provide school principals with an opportunity to engage directly with me so that together we can establish specific targets to be achieved,” said MEC Motsumi.

Members of the media are invited to cover both activities.
