The North West Department of Education MEC, Viola Motsumi, has strongly condemned the disruption of teaching and learning that took place at Are-Fadimeheng Secondary School in Jouberton on Monday, 16 March 2026.
It is reported that learners and community members disrupted teaching and learning while demanding the urgent removal of the school principal. The police arrived at the school, and the principal was safely escorted out of the school premises.
The school has experienced ongoing conflict between staff and learners. Last year, the Department deployed a team led by the Superintendent-General, Mr Lengane Bogatsu, to investigate the challenges faced by the school. A number of allegations have been raised against the school principal.
The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi emphasized that the investigating team will soon table the report after all affected parties have been contacted.
“I wish to condemn the disruption of teaching and learning that occurred at this school. I always encourage peaceful engagement whenever conflicts arise; violence is never the solution. At one point, I personally visited the school to monitor progress and provide support. I have also tasked a team to conduct an investigation, and a report will be tabled as soon as all involved parties have been consulted,” highlighted MEC Motsumi.
The Department has directed the school principal to report to the Local Area Office until the investigation is concluded. Today, learners have returned to school, and teaching and learning are expected to resume as normal.
