The North West Department of Education MEC, Viola Motsumi, when concluding the Last Push campaign before the examinations, visited Charora Secondary School at Chaneng Village near Rustenburg to motivate both parents and Grade 12 learners on Saturday, 18 October 2025. The visit followed the low performance of Charora Secondary School in the third‑quarter matric results, wherein they obtained *63.5 %*. The school has a total number of *159* Grade 12 learners, and *59* learners failed in the third quarter.
Parents and learners committed to helping learners during this period of the final examination. During the Pledge Signing, parents played an important part in the commitment.
The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, pleaded with parents to release learners to attend the incubation camps.
“I am extremely pleased to see a large number of parents who have responded to a call on Saturday morning. This action shows that parents of this school have a kin interest in education. In the last quarter we have observed that when learners were writing their examination being hosted in the incubation camp, they passed their exams. When they write exams being home they are defocused and many learners fail. I am appealing with your good selves to bring learners to the incubation camps. Teachers are available at the camps to assist learners and we are still hopeful that results could improve”, said MEC Motsumi.
Ms Mapule Khunou a mother of the Grade 12 learner highlighted that as parents they never had education but they are willing to assist their children.
MEC Motsumi further made an awareness to the Grade 12 learners, that any learner who will be found to have contravened with the examination rules will be banned for a period of 3 years.
The event was graced by Kgosana Motante, Kgosana Diale and Ward Councillor, Cllr Oupa Langeni.
