North West Department of Education Crowns Provincial Moot Court Champions, and Eyes National Title

The North West Department of Education’s Learner Social Support Services Directorate hosted a highly successful provincial schools moot court competition at Bafokeng Magistrate Court in Rustenburg on September 6, 2025. This stimulating event underscored the remarkable legal skills of learners from all over the province, particularly in encoraging analytic thinking and advocacy skills.

One of the leading objectives of this competition was to pick out the top four learners who will represent the North West at the national level in Pretoria from 08- 12 October 2025. After a stringent and competitive process, four exceptional schools surfaced as provincial champions, attaining their place at the national level.

MEC Viola Motsumi believes that the skills that these learners acquired from this competition will serve them well beyond the classroom and into their endeavoured professional lives.

“We are prominent to witness such an elevated level of skills and eagerness from our learners. This competition not only improves their legal acumen but also constructs leadership skills and confidence that is essential for their future,” said Motsumi.

Schools were categorized into quintiles, with all participating learners being from Grades 9 and 10.

Winners of Quintile 4 to 5
Sunrise view Secondary School 1
Mahikeng Secondary School 2
NewVision Secondary School 3

The Provincial Moot Cout Competition serves as a key platform for bringing up future legal minds and active citizens, providing them with skills necessary, both civic engagement and academic success. The North West Department of Education expands its congratulations to the winning secondary schools and wishes them the best of luck as they get ready to compete at the national level.
