NORTH WEST DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CONDUCTS OVERSIGHT VISIT AT SCHWEIZER-RENEKE PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in the North West Province, Viola Motsumi conducted an oversight visit to Schweizer Reneke Primary School in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district on Friday, 11 July 2025.

The Primary purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of the school’s construction project. The MEC conducted the Sod turning in April 2024 to signify the beginning of the project.

During the visit MEC engaged with stakeholders including implementing agent (IDT), contractor and subcontractors, officials and community members to discuss the project’s status, challenges and timelines for completion.

Major challenges experienced were the disruption of the project by community members, however that has been resolved and there are no current challenges at the moment.

IDT and the contractor were pleased to inform MEC Motsumi that there is a 70% overall complete progress of the school. The bricklaying, roofing, plastering and ceilings of 21 classrooms, multipurpose centre, computer room, admin block, kitchen and dining hall, general purpose hall has been done. They are only left with external work of the soccer field and tennis court.

They also committed that the school will be complete this year, in 2026 it will be operational.
The construction of Schweizer Reneke Primary School is a significant initiative aimed at improving access to quality education in the region.

“We are committed in providing quality learning and teaching to our learners across the Province. Currently schools in the area are overcrowded and we believe that this school will alleviate pressure to the surrounding schools.

“We are also happy that all the employees are continuously getting their salaries. This project created temporary job opportunities to local community members. Let me further discourage the protests that were encountered during this project. Such aAts seriously delay our plans of delivering quality education to our learners”, said MEC Motsumi.

The oversight visit demonstrates the Department of Education’s commitment to ensuring that Infrastructure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.
