NORTH WEST DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION MARKING OF NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE PAPERS PROGRESSES SMOOTHLY

The North West Department of Education is pleased to announce that the marking process for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate examinations is unfolding smoothly across the province.

Educators and subject specialists from various schools have been deployed to different marking centers to ensure the process is conducted efficiently.

The NSC candidates are primarily those candidates who have their school-based marks and are intending to improve their subject performance. In contrast, Senior Certificate candidates are candidates who left school years ago and are now seeking to obtain a matric qualification.

The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi encouraged candidates to use Second Chance opportunity to their advantage.

“We truly appreciate the Second Chance program, which allows individuals who did not complete their matric or wish to improve their results to do so.

“We encourage all eligible candidates to take advantage of this opportunity,” said the MEC.

MEC Motsumi further emphasized that candidates should write all their papers.
“We are appealing to all candidates to honour the examination process and write all their papers. Only 54% managed to write their examination and 46% could not show up at the examination centres”, highlighted MEC Motsumi.

Marking is expected to be concluded on 10 July 2025. Candidates are expected to get results from 07 August 2025 after Umalusi has verified them.

The department urges all candidates to seize the Second Chance opportunity to enhance their educational qualifications and future prospects.

Registration for the 2026 Second Chance programme will open in October 2025 until February 2026. Candidates are encouraged to be on the lookout for the registration period.
