The North West Department of Education has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence by securing top positions at the 2024/25 National Schools Nutrition Programme (NSNP) Best Schools and Districts Awards. The prestigious ceremony took place on Friday 6 December 2024 at Modjadji Primary School in Ga-Selwane Village, Phalaborwa, Limpopo Province.
This recognition highlights the department’s outstanding efforts in promoting the well-being of learners through the National Schools Nutrition Programme, which plays a crucial role in ensuring that students receive nutritious meals to support their academic performance and overall health.
By achieving top honours in this national event, the North West Department of Education has once again set a high standard for excellence in education and learner’s care. The awards reflect the dedication and hard work of educators, school staff, and the district’s leadership in ensuring that the nutrition needs of learners are met, ultimately contributing to their success both in and out of the classroom.
This recognition not only celebrates the hard work of the department but also underscores the importance of holistic student development, combining nutrition with educational excellence.
The North West Department of Education obtained top positions as follows:
1. Uitschot Primary School from Ottosdal farms obtained the second position in best performing farm school in NSNP best practice awards and walked away the the Price money of R40 000.
2. Tholo Primary School in Uitkyk near Madikwe obtained the second position in the category of Grade 5 Land Scape Milk Parlour and received a certificate and Laminator. A learner from the school called Keogotsitse Mosimane received a uniform voucher worth R1000.
3. Tshwara-O- Dire Primary from Mogwase received a certificate and the learner called Mbalenhle Manamane from the same school received a school uniform voucher worth R500.
4. Bojanala District was a finalist in the category for the Best Performing District and walked away with a certificate.
5. Onkabetse Thuto Secondary School in Setlagole Village was a finalist in the category for Best Performing NSNP Best Practice in the country received a certificate.
The MEC for Education, Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi has extended her heartfelt congratulations to all the top achievers of the 2024/25 National Schools Nutrition Programme (NSNP) Best Schools and Districts Awards. She acknowledged the outstanding performance of the North West Department of Education team and emphasized the importance of the awards in highlighting the department’s commitment to student health and academic success.
“On behalf of the department, I wish to congratulate all the winners, and to those who did not obtain first place, I urge you not to despair. I am truly proud of the entire team that represented us in Limpopo province. It has now become a norm that whenever the province competes nationally, we can confidently expect excellent results,” said MEC Motsumi. She went on to stress that these prestigious awards reflect the department’s ongoing dedication to providing healthy and nutritious meals to learners, which is integral to their academic performance.
“These top awards are a clear indication that as a Department, we take serious precautions when it comes to the food of learners at school. We know that when learners eat a healthy meal, they are bound to perform well in their studies,” added MEC Motsumi.
